Magic Loop Socks, Part I - Sunday, November 2nd

Once upon a time I taught myself to knit socks on dpns. But the dpns were evil and cruel, they would run away from me, and hide in the couch cushions and stab me in my...

But anyhow, finally one day I met the magic loop method and me and my socks have lived happily ever after! In this class you will learn how to knit socks the magic loop way on long circulars. This class includes 2 sessions and an original PicnicKnits sock pattern. You will learn toe-up construction and short-row heels. Also, magic looping is not just for socks and we'll learn about the other applications of the technique. If you have dpn sock patterns you would like help "converting", just bring them along and after class we'll get you hooked up!

*****This class will be limited to 5 students.

Supplies needed:
350-450 yards of "sock" yarn
Appropriately sized 40 inch circulars

*Sock yarn can be anything from fingering weight to DK. Just make sure your needles are the right size - fingering weight usually requires size one or two needles, sport or DK weights might require anything from a size three to a size six. I recommend addi turbos or hiya hiya circulars, as the joins are very smooth.

Class Cost for part 1 and part 2:$45 total

Beginning Spinning Wheel Class - Sunday, November 2nd

This is a beginner’s level wheel class. Topics covered will include the various types of spinning wheels, fiber preparation as it relates to spinning, spinning the fiber, plying and troubleshooting. This will be a great class for those who own a spinning wheel, but are a bit stymied on how to make their wheel work in the way they want. This class assumes you have a spinning wheel. Fiber will be provided in the cost of the class.

Beginning Drop Spindle Class
with Jennifer aka mamaknitter on Ravelry.

Have you seen Jennifer teach? She's a natural. One Sunday a few months ago, I was just thinking about maybe buying a spindle and some fiber while hanging out at the studio. Twenty minutes later Jennifer had me spinning. And being a teacher-type myself, I'm not the easiest person to teach! In this class you will learn the basics of drop spindle spinning from a born teacher. 1pm - check calendar for pricing and supplies needed!

No Cable Needles For You!

Me again. In this class we will be working on my Surrey Hat which is a cozy cabled hat made out of the softest Malabrigo. Ok, so send it up North to someone who lives where they actually have winter. The goal of this class is to get you cabling without a cable needle. Because life is too short to be hunting for dropped cable needles. This class includes a copy of the pattern. 11am - check calendar for pricing and supplies needed!

Basic Crock Pot Dyeing Class

Posting about this is reminding me that I need to put dinner in the crockpot! But Chris has much better ideas for the crockpots that are floating around her home and studio. She dyes with them and we've all seen the amazing things she comes up. This is our place where we will post about upcoming classes and events at Sugarbee Studios. For those of you unfamiliar - Sugarbee Studios is the home and art/fiber studio of Chris aka sugarbeestudios on Ravelry. She has been graciously opening up her home for Ravelry gatherings over the past few months. We've decided to take things a step further and offer classes.

We have four amazing teachers that will be teaching all manner of fiber techniques. There will be classes on dyeing, knitting, spinning, crocheting, and felting - and that's just for starters.

We also have pulled Mimi (Chris' mom and the best cook in the entire world according to my 9 year old) in on this venture. She will be doing lunches during the classes that will be available for $10 per day. Anyone who has had Mimi's cooking can tell you that it is worth it!
